Turntable asks a simple question: what if a record player was a side table?
We designed and built a working model to submit to Umbra’s Purpose Play Exhibition during Toronto Design Week winning both the People’s Choice Award and Best Product of Toronto Design Week.
The freestanding unit is powered by battery, allowing it to sit in the room, cord-free, making it a statement-piece music companion.
We worked with local manufacturers in the Toronto area to produce the wood and molded plastic components.
Process
The initial concept began as a series of three different heights: tall, short, and tabletop.
The other sizes were eliminated to focus on a single sidetable-height model. We generated several concepts:
